Everyone in the toilet has niches with risers, many make shelves in the niches to use the storage space, but from an aesthetic point of view, this does not look very beautiful. To close pipes and shelves, there are many ways: all kinds of doors, hatches, curtains, etc. I also faced this problem.
Shelves were made already like five years, but to close all this beauty, hands reached only now. The question was how to hide a niche. At one time, doors from the painted array were installed throughout the apartment, including in the sanitary unit, I decided that I would close the niche with a compartment door made of aluminum profile, and I would fill the emitting door unit in the sanitary unit. And immediately I ran into a problem, all organizations that make compartment doors on order refused to make a door filled with solid wood. Without thinking twice, I decided that you can make the door yourself. There are no big difficulties in manufacturing doors; it’s enough to calculate and file the aluminum profile, insert the filling and install the doors in a niche.
To begin with, I performed measurements of the opening and determined the number of wings, for a small opening size two are enough. Then I came up with a door pattern very similar to the front door to the bathroom.
Aluminum profiles can be bought in specialized stores to pre-calculate the required amount in the so-called “calculator”. All systems of aluminum profiles make these calculators for convenience, if desired, they can be found on the Internet. When calculating, the program will give out the required number of profiles, sizes of filling and other fittings.
As I said earlier, I chose a painted solid wood for filling, but you can choose the usually laminated particleboard with a thickness of 10 mm, the number of decors is very large and you can choose any. In the carpentry workshop, panels were ordered with a painting identical to the color of the doors. For greater panel strength, they were made with a thickness of 18 mm with the milling of the ends under 10 mm. In the glass workshop, I ordered glass of the required sizes. As a rule, panels with a thickness of 10 mm and through special rubber gaskets of glass or mirrors with a thickness of 4 mm are inserted into the sliding doors of the compartment doors.
After all the materials were purchased, the assembly process began. In the beginning, you need to file the guides in size. Since there were a lot of horizontal guides, due to the design of the doors, I decided to cut all the details on a miter saw with a special aluminum disk installed. In order to saw a large number of parts of the same size, you can put emphasis and cut it. When working with a power tool, be sure to observe safety precautions.
Once all the parts are ready, you can begin the assembly process. Holes of two diameters are drilled in the vertical guides for fastening the upper and lower rollers. Then you need to find an even free plane for assembly. All glass filling is fitted with a rubber seal and inserted into the guides, the wooden filling is inserted without seals. As a result, we get a fully laid outdoor pattern, the main condition is to observe the exact centering of the filling and horizontal profiles and the right angle. After all horizontal elements are assembled, it is necessary to insert vertical guides.
A lightly tapping rubber mallet with an interference fit enters its place. After the door is assembled, you must once again check the right angles in the structure and install the rollers thereby securing the entire structure. Then, Schlegel (a fleecy self-adhesive strip that softens the sash’s impacts on the walls) is installed on the vertical rails.
After the doors are assembled, it is necessary to fix the lower and upper door guides. The top rail is mounted on screws or wall plugs to the ceiling. I fasten the lower guide to double-sided tape, but can also be fixed on screws.
Stoppers for door brake are inserted into the lower guide. After the guides are installed, it is necessary to install the door leaves in them and go to the final installation process – adjusting the verticality of the doors. The doors are adjusted with screws in the lower roller, with the help of it you can very accurately adjust each side of the door.
In order for the door to fit into the interior around the perimeter, I made platbands from the same painted wood. As a result, I got an excellent door that looks harmoniously in the interior of the sanitary unit and performs its main function, closes the water risers and shelves. For assembly, we did not need any complex and expensive tools. It is enough to have a screwdriver or drill, a set of hexagons, a rubber mallet and a miter saw, which can be replaced with a metal saw and a miter box.
